2. What is discharge?

It is normal for every woman to notice some white secretion leaving her vagina on non-period days. These secretions are named 'discharge' and the amount varies from woman to woman. In the course of the hormonal cycle, discharge changes a little. In the first two weeks after menstruation discharge is rather clear. Towards the middle of the cycle (about 1-2 weeks after the start of a period) discharge becomes stronger. Until the next menstruation, discharge is of a rather creamy white colour.

If you notice a change in the quality of the natural discharge (e.g. any changes in colour or odour) or if you notice any itching or burning in the intimate area, you should consult a doctor, as this may be an indication for an infection.
